Regal Ringneck Snake
These pretty snakes (Diadophis punctatus regalis) are found primarily in the southwestern US. They range in length from 8 to 34 inches. Ringnecks are nocturnal and are generally found hiding under rocks or other ground coverings. Their diet is ophiophagus, consisting mostly of other snakes. Harmless to humans, their mild venom is used to paralyze small prey. Females lay 3 to 10 eggs at a time, sometimes sharing a communal nest.
