Otter with Sea Urchin

$34.00

The sea otter (Enhydra lutris) is native to the northeastern waters of the North Pacific Ocean. Otters forage and dive to the sea floor to dine on various crustaceans and mollusks. These adorable creatures are the only marine animal able to lift and turn over rocks, which they also use as tools to extract food from shells. They act as a keystone species by controlling sea urchin populations that might otherwise cause ecological damage to kelp forests. Otters are noted for their thick fur. Their coats are the densest of all animals, consisting of up to 150,000 hairs per square centimeter!
