Manatees

$34.00

Manatees (Trichechus manatus) are mammals of the order Sirena, likely evolved over 60 million years ago from four-legged animals closely related to elephants. Like their distant cousins they are known to have good long term memory. They exhibit complex social interactions indicating a high intelligence similar to dolphins. These peaceful herbivores are often referred to as sea cows. They spend most of their day sleeping underwater, surfacing every 20 minutes or less. Otherwise, the rest of their lives are spent grazing in shallow waters.
