Frilled Lizard
This spectacular species (Clamydosaurus kingii) is native to northern Australia and southern New Guinea. It weighs over one pound, reaches lengths up to three feet, and lives 10 to 20 years. These lizards spend most of their lives in trees, moving to the ground to feed, mostly on insects, or to move to a new tree. When running, they raise up on their hind legs and tilt their heads far back to maintain their balance. Their remarkable frills measure around 12 inches in diameter when fully extended!
