The Geometer Caterpillar is the larvae of the Geometer Moth. Their name derives from the Ancient Greek geo γη or γαια meaning 'the earth' and metron μέτρων meaning 'measure' because the caterpillars, or inchworms as we commonly call this species, seem to measure the earth as they move.
