October and November 2019 Newsletter!

I don’t know what your relationship to Halloween is, but for me it’s always been “Bah-humbug”. I go to the store after work, reluctantly buy candy, put it in a bowl out front of the house, and I turn off all the lights and hide in my room.

Willow, on the other hand, LOVES halloween. Here’s a direct quote “It feels like it’s more acceptable to be myself during Halloween. I love putting on costumes and doing face paint… watching horror movies... putting halloween decorations up in my room even though in all reality they’re going to stay up all year around…”

So, maybe a bit of Willow’s Halloween spirit is rubbing off on me, because I’m going to dress up this year and have her paint my face. Here is an example of her awesome face painting skills!

This month’s Newsletter is FULL of information, so stick with it! And feel free to pull any photos from this newsletter to promote Round Mountain Fibers (and increase sales) on your social media.  Here’s what it covers:

  • New Club Colors for November

  • NEW Pattern Suggestions

  • Photos of garments recently knit up in our yarns

  • NEW patterns by Jennifer Kirchenbauer for DK and Worsted weights

  • Nomadic Knits Vermont Edition! Remember the patterns from the TNNA runway?

New Club Colors for November:

We hope you will forgive us for doing ANOTHER orange colorway this month. This time, in the Entomology collection! We have seen more Monarch butterflies this year than in previous years, and wanted to honor this incredible flyer by trying to capture its vivid colors on a skein of yarn. The coordinating semisolid is inspired by the more neutral tones on the underside of the Monarch’s wings.

Colorway: Monarch Butterfly and Semisolid: Butterfly Buff

Our Ornithology colorway is in honor of a beautiful little Vireo who passed away after flying into our window… we wanted to honor the little bird by trying to replicate his beautiful feathers. The soft green semisolid mimicks the bird’s breast feathers, and allows the yellow-green of the colorway to pop.

Colorway: Red Eyed Vireo and Semisolid: Vireo Green

Our Botany colorway is based on the rich reds, yellows and golds of Fall, Willow’s favorite season. The deep purple semisolid is a perfect match to the dark red of the darkest Maple Leaves making up the crunching, rustling carpet of our neck of the woods.

Colorway: Fall Leaves and Semisolid: Maple Leaf Purple

Our Aquatic colorway is based on the Greater Blue Ringed Octopus, a beautiful and venomous creature that only reaches about 10cm in size!

Colorway: Greater Blue Ringed Octopus and Semisolid: Octopus Gold

New Pattern Suggestions:

We’ve found and shared several beautiful patterns over the course of the last few weeks on our Facebook page. Here they are! An assortment of patterns to show off our semisolids and colorway pairings. I am smitten with mosaic knitting, as I love the idea of reversible colorwork! Feel free to use these patterns to promote our yarn on your social media pages!

DK and Worsted Weight Patterns by Jennifer Kirchenbauer:

We’ve added a bunch of heavier weight patterns designed by Jennifer Kirchenbauer to our patterns shop, and have had them knit up by our sample knitters. Here they are!

On the left: Zhu Bamboo Scarf by Jennifer Kirchenbauer knit up in Pulpit Berry Red in our Spruce Worsted. On the right: Serpentine Stairs by Jennifer Kirchenbauer knit up in DK in Jewel Weed Stem and Spruce Worsted in Dark Gray.

Jennifer also just published a new pattern designed for our 50g Spruce Worsted skeins (Do you have any of those left? We discontinued them, but of course folks can use a half skein of two colors).

Nomadic Knits: Vermont Edition:

AND, Nomadic Knits issue 5: Vermont has just come out, and it features 4 different designs in Round Mountain Fibers, all big hits at the 2019 Summer TNNA Show!

Stay warm (or cool, depending on where you live!).

Hugs,

Monica and Willow
