Benefit yarn! Help us save a sacred site from development!

Dearest Yarnies and lovers of Round Mountain Fibers,

I have created a limited edition colorway for a cause that is close to home, and to my heart: The preservation of a very important Native burial place and sacred site, here in Brattleboro, Vermont. 50% of sales will go to save this sacred site from development. To buy this yarn, please click here: https://roundmountainfibers.com/sacredsitefundraiser.

*UPDATE* This fundraiser has ended. However, the colorway is now part of our Dye to Order collection.

Mossy rocks at water's edge; A swatch of knit yarn: Skeins of yarn in greens, grays, and white

Long story short, this piece of land is going up on the open market, and there are no ways to preserve the property other than for the tribe to purchase it. This property is important for 2 reasons: First, it is a known burial place for native people. In the written record, two native burials were uncovered and plundered in the early settlement of the town of Brattleboro. Oral history and its location support that this is a very sacred place, and that there are more burials on this property. Secondly, right off the point of the land, under water (due to flooding from the hydroelectric dam down river) are sacred petroglyphs. Petroglyphs are relatively rare in Vermont and are only found in very sacred places where the people who carved the rocks were communicating with the spirits in the rock and in the underworld. Please help us preserve this land for the coming generations, for public use and educational purposes, and please help us keep developers from digging up people’s ancestors! For more information please visit https://www.atowi.org/wantastegok-sacred-site-protection.

Thank you so much for your support! If you cannot purchase any yarn at this time but want to support the cause, please consider sharing on your own social media or in any knitting/crocheting/weaving groups you belong to. Thank you everyone!

Sincerely,
Monica MacNeille
